Family Support service at UHNM

Family Support Service at UHNM from UHNM NHS Trust on Vimeo.

Today UHNM has launched the 'Family Support Service', the team which is run by our Patient Advice and Liaison Service will act as a direct contact between our patients and their relatives.

Family Support Officers will be available between 8am and 5pm, seven days a week to support teams across UHNM to maintain communication between patients and their relatives. The officers can provide updates to relatives on their loved ones condition, print out emails and give them to the patients and also be a listening ear for any concerns or worries that they may have.

This service aims to reduce the volume of calls to wards enabling staff to concentrate on providing direct patient care. Please remember that our Family Support Officers are not clinically trained.

Angela Grocott, Head of Patient Experience said: "We know it is really difficult for relatives to not see their loved one while visiting restrictions are in place in our hospitals. Many of our wards and department areas have already developed innovative processes in which to liaise with patient’s families and carers and we have made available a number of devices to aid video calls between relatives and patients.

“We hope that this service will offer additional comfort to our patients and their relatives knowing that they can still communicate to each other while both remaining safe at home."
