CEO recognises elderly care ward for pandemic work

ward 79 receiving award from ceo

One of the wards caring for elderly and vulnerable patients during the Covid-19 pandemic has been recognised by the hospital’s Chief Executive, Tracy Bullock. This followed a nomination by Dr Neena Bodasing, Consultant in Infectious Diseases, who praised the team for being “second to none”, even during this unprecedented time.

Dr Bodasing said: “The team care for some of the most vulnerable and dependent population in society at the best of times, but during the pandemic their efforts are to be especially applauded. I visited the ward recently and the care I saw today had not suffered. In fact, in terms of attention to detail, clear documentation and the prioritisation of communication with both patients and their families, the care was second to none. The junior doctors and advanced nurse practitioner clearly knew all their patients and the patients’ families well and difficult decisions regarding care were documented in a timely and clear way. The sister in charge of the ward knew all her patients and staff and provided support for them.”

Staff on ward 79 at Royal Stoke were presented with a Chief Executive’s Award, which recognises outstanding and exemplary work.

Tracy Bullock, Chief Executive, said: "Ward 79 are well deserving recipients who have twice rose to the challenge of becoming a Covid-19 ward and it was a pleasure to present them with this award for all they are doing to support our elderly patients. Their style and approach has clearly brought out the best from their staff in terms of attitude, professionalism, mutual support and compassion, so a big well done again."

A very big "Thank you" to all of our staff who are working so hard at this unprecedented time in history. We know everyone is going above and beyond what is normally expected of them and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication. The latest team to get in touch and tell us about their experience was Ward 79.
