Bronze medal for radiotherapy apprentice

Radiotherapy engineering apprentice Ciaran Jones has been presented with the bronze medal for 'Apprentice of the Year' at the national Skills for Health #OurHealthHeroes Awards 2019. This follows his work in pioneering a new radiotherapy engineering apprenticeship course in the absence of a national program.

Dr Craig Edwards, Head of Radiotherapy Physics at UHNM, said: "This was a fantastic event which recognised the outstanding work taking place across the country by all the unsung heroes of the NHS.  It was an incredible achievement for Ciaran but without his positive, 'can-do' attitude, this may not have been the case. We're all really proud of his hard work."

The course has been so well received that it has now been adopted by several other radiotherapy centres across the UK.

Ciaran said: "It was amazing to be nominated for a national award, let alone be in the top three. Events like this give you a sense of achievement and that what you are doing in the workplace is actually making a difference. It makes you feel appreciated by your colleagues."
