Scrubs4Stoke exceed target of 2,000 donations

Scrubs4Stoke have now donated more than 2,000 sets of scrubs to UHNM. Simply made with minimal places for contaminants to hide, scrubs form essential work wear for staff in clinical areas, especially during the Coronavirus outbreak. They are also easy to launder and cost effective. The group is now aiming to go even further and bring their donations to 3,000 sets.

Laura McColl, former nurse and sewing enthusiast, is spokesperson for the group.

Laura said: “Just over a month ago a handful of determined people decided to try and raise enough money and recruit enough volunteers to sew 2000 scrubs for UHNM. It seemed ambitious, but with the help of the local community we have surpassed our wildest dreams. To date we have raised over £14,000 and delivered more than 2,800 sets of scrubs to the hospitals, along with 8,000 laundry bags, plus hairbands and hats, which help to make wearing PPE a bit more comfortable.”

As word of the appeal spread, cash donations poured in from people in the local area and even from as far away as Hong Kong. Local businesses got involved too, with curtain makers opening up their workrooms to cut fabric and make scrubs.

Laura said: “We want to say a big thank you to everyone in Staffordshire and around the world for their generosity and support in this endeavour. Now that we’ve smashed our original target, our goal is to get 3000 sets of scrubs to staff at the hospital.”
