Welcome to our Thoracic Surgery Department.

The information within these pages are designed to give you a useful summary of the specialty, the services we offer, where they are located and how to contact us. The team look after patients with a wide range of lung and chest surgery problems. Our team is deeply integrated and focussed on preparing patients and enhancing their recovery after surgery.

Royal Stoke Hospital

The department is a regional thoracic centre where we provide a complete tertiary service to the surrounding region with respect to all types of lung surgery, with the exception of transplantation. We specialise in minimally invasive keyhole thoracic surgery, including lobectomies, segmentectomies and wedge resections and extensive invasive surgery including pneumonectomies. As a specialist Trauma centre, our teams can treat chest trauma and undertake trauma procedures including rib fixation. Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit consists of two 8 bedded pods, which deliver care to level two and three patients. When patients are well enough they are moved into Ward 223 for continued care. Ward 223 is located in the Main Building.
