County Hospital
County Hospital has been extensively refurbished into a vibrant modern acute local hospital. The hospital provides a range of acute services across its 180 beds, including:
- Accident and Emergency and Acute Medicine
- Women’s Health Centre
- Renal Dialysis
- Bariatric Surgery
- Endoscopy
- MRI diagnostics
- Outpatients
In recent year, significant investment has been made into the facilities at County Hospital, as part of UHNM’s ambition to develop the hospital as an elective hub. The hospital facilities include:
- Chemotherapy, Oncology and Haematology Unit
- Renal Unit with 12 dialysis stations
- Four new wards, each with 50% single rooms
- Three Laminar Flow Theatres, making seven theatres in total
- MRI Unit with two scanners
- Staffordshire Treatment Suite
- North Staffordshire Hand Centre
Along side this, work is underway to develop a new Day Case Unit and Breast Unit
There are more than 650 parking spaces for staff, a restaurant, WHSmith and a bakery. There is also a private nursery on site and if you do need to travel to Royal Stoke, there is a free shuttle bus service that leaves every hour on the hour.
Elective Orthopaedic Unit
The Elective Orthopaedic Unit at County Hospital looks after patients pre and post operatively who are undergoing joint replacement and day case surgery on feet, ankles, hips and knees from Staffordshire and surrounding areas. We have also have patients from Wales, who were treated as major traumas at Royal Stoke and require follow-up surgery.
North Midlands Hand Centre
The North Midlands Hand Centre aims to provide state-of-the-art treatment whilst reducing the waiting list for hand surgery at UHNM
Up to eight operations will take place each day at the purpose-built centre on a range of conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ORIF of wrist, trapeziectomy and ganglions.
As well as a state-of-the-art operating theatre, the Centre also features modern and comfortable changing facilities and a well-equipped recovery room.
Since opening in July 2023, the team at the North Midlands Hand Centre have already operated on more than 200 cases covering a wide a variety of elective and trauma procedures. This has enabled UHNM to reduce waiting times for hand and wrist surgery.
Staffordshire Treatment Suite
The Staffordshire Treatment Suite provides theatre space and associated recovery bays to be able to treat patients on a day-case basis.
As the suite can treat more patients who are deemed suitable to have their procedure in that environment, it also frees up more space at main theatres at County Hospital and at Royal Stoke University Hospital. This means patients will be seen quicker at the hospital most appropriate for their needs.
Chemotherapy Unit
The Unit, which first opened its doors to patients back in 2016, is a state of the art facility that serves patients requiring treatment for a range of cancers, including the treatment for blood related cancers such as Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma. The Unit will also look after other non-cancer blood related conditions.
