Older Adults
Our 25 bedded Frail Elderly Assessment Unit (FEAU) at RSUH is the admission portal for older adults. Approximately 25% of the patients seen in our Frail Elderly Assessment Unit are discharged and the remainder are admitted, either for a short period on the unit or transferred to one of the Elderly Care Wards at Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital.
Pre discharge wards at RSUH also form part of the Elderly Care wards template. The Care of the Elderly team are nationally recognised for their work on deconditioning ‘Sit up , get dressed, keep moving and also their work on frailty passports and geriatric assessment. There is a dedicated Geriatric helpline for General Practitioners advice and rapid access clinics, a front of house team focusing on admission avoidance and also dedicated falls service and input onto trauma wards for elderly patients with fractures.
The team have a dedicated team of geriatrics, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP’s) and a nursing, carer and volunteer workforce whom truly aspire to achieve the best care experience for all their elderly patients.
