Community Groups have their say on Community Diagnostic Centre
Community groups from across Stoke-on-Trent have been given the opportunity to have their say on design plans for a new £42.6 million Community Diagnostic Centre in Hanley.
More than 40 people attended a community and engagement event led by University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM to be given an exclusive preview of the interior design plans for the CDC, which is set to open in early 2026.
The event, held on 21 January, provided an opportunity for people to offer feedback and suggestions on how to make the CDC a comfortable, inviting and accessible environment for all potential patients. One of the CDC’s key goals is to ensure access to care and outcomes for all and therefore the hearing from the communities who are likely to use the facilities is a priority.
The design team has drawn inspiration from Stoke-on-Trent’s rich potteries heritage, incorporating its colours, patterns, and textures to create a calm, welcoming environment. During the event, community representatives noted the attention to detail in the designs and commended the efforts to ensure the space accommodates a diverse range of needs.
The group were encouraged to ask questions, voice concerns, and propose improvements, all of which were addressed by the external design team and UHNM teams.
Jessica Mulroy-Johnson, UHNM Communications and Engagement Lead, said:
“The response from the community representatives regarding the CDC’s interior design has been very positive. Their feedback and insights into potential challenges will help ensure the space is accessible and inviting for everyone. Every concern raised during the event will be appropriately addressed by the project management team.”
This collaborative effort between UHNM and the community highlights the shared commitment to creating a healthcare facility that serves and represents everyone.
The final interior design plan is due to be signed off later this month.
