England’s Director of Transformation meets innovative teams during visit to UHNM

NHS England’s National Director for Transformation was able to see innovative approaches to patient care first hand during a visit to University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).

While at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, Dr Vin Diwakar was shown the latest cutting-edge medical technology available to patients in areas and specialities including colorectal robotic surgery, interventional radiology, and stroke thrombectomy. Dr Diwakar also viewed advances to patient care at Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke during his visit on Friday 24 January.

Dr Diwakar also had the opportunity to speak to patients and staff about their experiences.

Chris Bird, Project Director at UHNM said: “We wanted to use Dr Diwaker’s visit to UHNM to highlight some of the innovative approaches we have developed to improve patient care and outcomes. In particular, we showcased how we are harnessing the benefit of digital technology, for example robotic surgery, where we are a national leader in these treatments. It was also an opportunity to demonstrate that we are a progressive Trust with a bold ambition for the future with a desire to work with NHS England in advancing our capability to lead on digital transformation.

“The visit was filled with an enthusiastic energy and lots of great examples from colleagues across a range of specialities. Dr Diwaker left with a positive impression of UHNM, and we look forward to working with his team going forward.”
