UHNM add two services to PKB platform

Patients from University Hospitals of North Midlands are set to benefit from two more services which have now joined the online personal health record system, ‘Patients Know Best’ (PKB), to record changes to their condition.

Patients Know Best (PKB) is an online portal which brings together patient information from the Trust and patients own recorded data into one secure health record, helping to deliver high-quality, integrated care while also giving patients the opportunity to better manage their health at home or wherever they may be.

The Lymphoedema outpatient service went live last month to support self-management, prevent complications and incorporate this service into a community setting.

The second service to go live was Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which will use PKB for messaging and forwarding information/videos to patients.

Nicholas Harrison, IM&T PKB Project Manager said: “With more than 10 services across the trust that are live using PKB, it is really exciting to also bring Lymphedema team & IBD on board. It has been fantastic to work closely with each team to understand their challenges and requirements. Each team is now live using the quick and secure messaging service along with a library rich with useful information for their patients to access. This will bring great benefit to both the patient and the service when handling queries or concerns, keeping the patients in control and informed about their treatment and care.”

Andi Stallwood, UHNM IBD Co-Ordinator, said: “Introducing the service for IBD patients on to PKB is working well and with future introductions of blood results being available to patients via this service it will significantly decrease incoming phone calls to the IBD Helpline, The Control Questionnaire has already been completed a few times by patients, with/without prompting and this gives us invaluable feedback on the current control of their condition.”
