UHNM attends NHS Parliamentary Awards

The Staffordshire Lung Health Checks team from University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) attended the NHS Parliamentary Awards in Westminster, London, on Monday as regional winners nominated for a national ‘Health Equity Award’.

Although the team did not win the national award, attending the event proved to be a fantastic experience, listening to speakers such as Chief Executive for NHSE Amanada Pritchard and Wes Streeting MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. There was also a special recorded message from the Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer.

Janina Barnett, programme manager for the Lung Health Checks said: “It was a brilliant experience, and such an honour to be nominated for a prestigious award. Although we didn’t win, the team are still winners in my eyes and their continued passion for the screening programme is second to none.”

Dr Imran Hussain, clinical lead for the lung health checks said: “To be regional winners is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work the team put in everyday in order to make this screening programme as successful as it is today.”

The NHS Parliamentary Awards were created in 2018 to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector. In the first stage of the awards, MPs nominate healthcare teams and individuals in their local area to highlight their exceptional commitment and achievements working in and with the NHS.

2024 was a record breaking year for nominations across the NHS Parliamentary Awards, seeing more than 900 nominations overall.
