UHNM shortlisted for national Parliamentary Award
University Hospitals of North Midlands is pleased to announce that one of its teams have been shortlisted for the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2024. The Staffordshire Lung Health Checks team have been nominated for the Health Equalities Award.
The NHS Parliamentary Awards were created in 2018 to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector. In the first stage of the awards, MPs nominate healthcare teams and individuals in their local area to highlight their exceptional commitment and achievements working in and with the NHS.
Staffordshire Lung Health Checks going forward to the final round of the awards is a particular achievement this year, with 318 MPs across England putting forward 918 nominations – a far greater number than in any previous year. University Hospitals of North Midlands is grateful to David Williams MP for nominating the Staffordshire Lung Health Checks to recognise their contribution to Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire.
There are ten award categories this year which cover innovation and exceptional care right across the breadth of healthcare services. The Health Equalities Award is for an individual or organisation that works to bring together different groups and organisations to reduce health inequalities and prevent ill health in their community.
Janina Barnett, Programme Manager for Staffordshire Lung Health Checks said: “We were thrilled to be nominated for this award and I am delighted that the team have been recognised for their hard work and passion for reducing health inequalities, the work undertaken is substantial and we will continue to strive to deliver the highest quality care to all.”
Helen Ashley, Director of Transformation and Strategy at UHNM said: “I am delighted that UHNM Staffordshire Lung Health Checks has been shortlisted for the Health Equalities category of the NHS Parliamentary Awards. Reducing health inequalities and improving health outcomes for all our patients and wider community is a key priority for UHNM.”
A panel of national judges – made up of notable figures across the healthcare sector – will now come together to select the winners of this year’s awards. These winners will be announced at the awards ceremony taking place on Monday 14 October 2024 – when healthcare leaders, finalists and MPs will come together to celebrate the immense contribution which healthcare staff make to the NHS.
