UHNM ward manager scoops employee of the month
A ward manager from University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) has been recognised with a Trust award for the care provided to a palliative patient and their family.
Jo Reece from the Frail Elderly Assessment Unit (FEAU) treated a patient who had a high level of nursing care needs which required specialist expertise.
In the nomination it highlighted that Jo took control of the difficult situation, leading and supporting her team to deliver the very best quality of care to an end-of-life patient. Jo stayed beyond her shift hours to ensure the patient was comfortable and to be there for the family at a very difficult time.
Trish O’Neil, Nurse Practitioner in Specialist Palliative Care, who nominated Jo, said: “She is one of the most compassionate, courageous and committed nurses I have met and is a shining example of the NHS at its best. She is highly regarded by her team and she is an amazing role model for them in many ways.”
Matthew Lewis, UHNM Medical Director, said: “I am pleased to present Jo with the Employee of the Month Award. It’s really fantastic to hear how Jo lead and supported her team through a difficult situation. She made sure they achieved the best care for the patient she was treating and their family.“
Jo added: “Thank you for the recognition but I really accept this on behalf of the whole of the FEAU team. I am lucky enough to have the most amazing team on FEAU, including the medical and ANP team that always strive to do the very best for their patients and families in our care, despite the many challenges and pressures that we face on a day to day basis.”
