What we offer
The maxillofacial team at University Hospitals have improved the lives of many suffering from severely disfiguring and damaging diseases. Having diseases which affect these parts of your body - ones so obvious to others - can be physically and emotionally damaging.
University Hospitals has a dedicated multi-disciplinary team to ensure our patients receive the best care possible in this area. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons frequently work alongside other specialists including orthodontists, oncologists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, and ear, nose and throat surgeons, to achieve the maximum health benefit for our patients.
Maxillofacial surgery is a specialized department, with dedicated clinical and operating space. The department holds weekly consultations/treatment clinics, and there are joint clinics with orthodontics every month.
A wide range of services are offered within the outpatient clinic, including minor surgical procedures, appliances and numerous investigations. We also have the facility of dedicated acute beds on a ward at the Royal Stoke University Hospital for those patients who need to be admitted. The department provides a service for both adults and children.
When patients are referred, the appointment will be made for an initial consultation. Radiographs and other investigations maybe requested at this stage.

A patient's perspective
"A short while ago I was diagnosed with a facial tumour and they had to take away half of my face, chest, one ear and all of my teeth to ensure my safety. Obviously this was devastating, but the caring and friendly attitude of the staff in the maxillofacial department at University Hospital, particularly Mr Grime, made it so much more bearable. One member of staff on the ward was very concerned about the fact that after two days I still didn't feel able to eat due to having my teeth out. They took extra care to find something manageable for me. The care I received at UHNS was first rate. I couldn't fault it." Mr W Pimblott
