Background:

Investigation of early emphysema; or investigation of prolonged jaundice in infants/young children

All samples will be analysed for AAT levels in the first instance. If these are low, then genotyping analysis should be requested.

AAT is a positive acute phase protein and may be high in infection or inflammation.

Results outside the reference range do not necessarily indicate disease. Similarly, results within the reference range do not preclude abnormality. Please contact the Duty Biochemist for discussion of individual patient results.
