Background:

Tumour marker used in diagnosis and monitoring of germ cell tumours, and a diagnostic aid for hepatocellular carcinoma in high risk patients

Raised in benign conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, biliary obstruction, alcoholic liver disease and pregnancy. Normal results do not exclude malignancy
