Capillary sample - clean site, puncture and use the first drop of blood. Apply blood within 15 seconds of lancing / drawing. Arterial - Clear contaminating solutions from lines first. Take arterial samples slowly to prevent haemolysis. Sample syringe should be plain (not heparinised)
