Requirement:

Clearly labelled maternal and cord samples are required.

ADDRESSOGRAPH LABELS MUST NOT BE USED ON BLOOD TUBES.

Turnaround Time:

Same or next day

Blood group and antibody screen and Kleihauer test if indicated on maternal sample. Blood group, phenotype and Direct Antiglobulin Test (if indicated) on cord sample.

Determines blood group and / or phenotype of baby to ascertain the need for further anti-D immunoglobulin and / or risk of neonatal anaemia

Other Comments:

For multiple births, separate cord samples are required from each infant (label Twin 1, Twin 2 etc.)
