Microscopy for detection of :monosodium urate crystals calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate crystals
If microscopy for rhagocytes or hydroxyapatite crystals required, please state on request as this is not performed routinely and will be referred

Collection container: Sterile plain container (If a cell count is required a paediatric lithium heparin bottle should be taken also)
Special instructions - Relevant clinical data and details of recent or current antimicrobial treatment should be provided:
Specimen transport: If processing is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at ambient temperature
