EBV (Epstein Barr virus, glandular fever, mononucleosis) serology

Requirement:

4ml clotted blood (1ml if paediatric), red top.

 

 

Turnaround Time:

1- 2 working days

Diagnosis of acute or previous EBV infection.

Useful when glandular fever is suspected and is also useful to exclude if a lymphoid haematological malignancy is suspected e.g. lymphoma.

Other Comments:

Specimen transport: Send to laboratory as soon as possible. If processing is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at ambient temperature. Delays of over 48 hours are undesirable
