Background:
Marker of haemolytic anaemia
Low levels are associated with extravascular haemolysis, in conjunction with elevated reticulocytes, and low RBC/haemoglobin/haematocrit.
Haptoglobin is a positive acute phase protein, and may be elevated in infection/inflammation
