Rectal swabs, catheter urine, wounds if part of outbreak

Turnaround Time:

1-3 days

Culture for Gram negative bacilli including, Extended-beta-lactamase producers (ESBL) , Gram negative bacilli resistant to fluorquinolones and aminoglycosides (MRGNB) and Carbapenemase producers (CPE)

Other Comments:

Collection container (including preservatives): Pink topped Copan E swab, (Plain container for urine). Please ensure that visible faecal material is present.

Specimen transport: If processing is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at ambient temperature
