Collection container (including preservatives): Amies swab with charcoal
Special instructions - Relevant clinical data and details of recent or current antimicrobial treatment should be provided.
NB State if recurrent infection
Throat swabs should be taken from the tonsillar area and/or posterior pharynx avoiding the tongue and uvula
Specimen transport: If processing is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at ambient temperature
