The Upper GI surgical wards are located on the lower floor of the Lyme Building, Royal Stoke University Hospital. Ward 108 is used for female GI surgery inpatients, Ward 109 for male GI surgery inpatients. Upper GI patients are also cared for on Wards 7 and 8 at County Hospital.
Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery
UHNM is one of only a small number of Trusts in the West Midlands region to offer a specialist oesophago-gastric and pancreatico-biliary cancer resection service. The unit offers specialist services to patients from Staffordshire, Shropshire (including part of Mid Wales) and Wolverhampton.
We also offer a specialist bariatric surgical service to support patients who need surgical assistance to help them to lose weight. All major cancer resections and bariatric operations are performed at UHNM.
Our consultants also offer surgery for patients with benign upper gastrointestinal conditions, for example biliary surgery including laparoscopic bile duct explorations, anti-reflux surgery, pancreatic surgery and hernia surgery.
